Hydrogen Cloride – HCL
Hydrogen chloride (HCl) is a colorless, pungent smelling gas that dissolves very easily in water. Watery solution of hydrogen chloride is called hydrochloric acid. When inhaling hydrogen chloride gas, hydrochloric acid is produced, which leads to severe burns in the respiratory tract and the lungs, as hydrochloric acid is a very strong acid.
Hydrochloric acid is an important inorganic acid used in a wide range of manufacturing processes, for example in the chemical-, metal-, pharma-, semiconductor industry. Most important sources of emissions are combustion processes, especially coal burning (power generation) and incineration (plastic waste).
Whenever there is a risk of increased exposure to HCL, continuous monitoring might be considered to minimize or avoid any impact on environment and human health.
